Program Overview

Financial leadership is essential to the health and vitality of nonprofit organizations, and it’s more than financial management. It’s critical to tie financials to organizational community impact and understand the true costs of program delivery.

The Financial Leadership program provides the tools necessary to create a sound financial strategy for your organization. Whether you have paid staff or are volunteer led, this program helps you understand the full costs of programs and how to build a sustainability mindset.

The Financial Leadership series is being offered in partnership with the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative, a program of the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region. Key aspects of the program:

  • Run as a live webinar series
  • Held over 8 virtual sessions, each 1.5 hours biweekly from 9-10:30 am. Webinars will be interactive where appropriate, with exercises to apply the principles of discussion and increase understanding. Each webinar will be accompanied by templates and tools.
  • The sessions are led virtually by Steve Zimmerman, Principal of Spectrum Nonprofit Services

2026 Dates:

  • September 1, 15, & 29
  • October 13 & 27
  • November 10 & 24
  • December 8

Location:

Participants choose to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams or in-person at the NPLI/Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region or GNPC/Madison Community Foundation. Participants will select their host site during registration. White the instructor will be delivering the material virtually, the in-person options allows for some networking and community building.

September 1: In-person attendance is preferred for the first session, but the virtual option will be available.

Our trainer, Steve Zimmerman, will be joining us virtually.

Participants:

The program is designed for staff and board members looking to be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to be financial leaders. We welcome all sizes of nonprofits. Whether you employ paid staff or are fully volunteer-run, this program is for you!

Executive directors, finance staff members, board treasurers or anyone looking to learn more about nonprofit finances will benefit from this program.

Priority is given to nonprofits within the Greater Madison area and the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region service area.

Cost:

In partnership with the Goodman Nonprofit Center, the participation fees are $500 for one participant or $900 for two participants from the same organization.

Refunds are not given for missed sessions.

Because of NPLI and GNPC’s generous donors we are able to subsidize the cost of this program.
