Director of Church Operations

REPORTS TO: Session / Elder Board, dotted line to Sr. Pastor.
AUTHORITY: Responsible for all church operations, staff support, administration, and programs.
DIRECT REPORTS: All paid staff, lay leaders & volunteers.
[Sr. Pastor is responsible for preaching, vision-casting, strategy development, pastoral care, leadership and discipleship development].

SCOPE & PURPOSE: Assist Sr. Pastor in developing ministry plans, strategies, core values and vision.  Provide leadership to fulfill the Church mission and reflect core values.  Help make the church as an organization run smoothly through managing people, finances, policies and processes. Includes the financial management of the church, but is wider in scope than business administration.

PAY RANGE: $70 – 85K, depending on qualifications and experience.

1)  CORPORATE LEADERSHIP 

  • -Provide Operational & Staff Oversight.
  • -Develop a high performing team comprised of staff members and Gospel partners / lay leaders to achieve the goals and vision of the church.
  • -Assist Sr. Pastor in developing ministry plans, strategies, core values and vision.
  • -Engage volunteers, lay leaders and staff in ministries and programs.
  • -Implement processes for engaging new members and volunteers into ministries.
  • -Manages and reports progress to the Session and Sr. Pastor on programs of work.
  • -Conduct annual performance reviews with each staff member. Oversee the evaluation of staff performance to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and fruitfulness of ministry activities.
  • -Develop job descriptions for each staff member.
  • -Provide training and feedback to staff regarding their corporate roles.
  • -Provide clear communication processes, including staff meetings.
  • -Equip and empower the staff, in alignment with their professional and spiritual growth and the growth of the church.
  • -Manage (Plan, Organize Motivate, and Control) the ministry staff as relates to ministries and daily work activities.
  • -Provide timely feedback to staff through comprehensive annual performance evaluations.
  • -Lead regular staff meetings and retreats for planning and coordinating ministry activities, promoting teamwork with the staff.
  • -Implement processes to effectively engage volunteers, lay leaders & staff in ministries and programs.
  • -Benchmark High Performing Organizations and incorporate Best Practices.
  • -Responsible for all aspects of human resource management.
  • -Develop SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for all Church Operations.

2) FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

  • -Responsible for all administrative, financial, and business matters of the church.
  • -Oversee all financial management matters of the church, from budgeting to daily cash flow, while administering all relevant financial policies and procedures.
  • -Create yearly budget for review and approval by the session.
  • -Educate staff members as to the significance of their roles in the budget and financials.
  • -Provide monthly financial reports to the session, and address financial performance with staff members.
  • -Work closely with Finance Committee to provide oversight and understanding of the financial processes of the church.
  • -Provide policies, procedures and controls for the “business” of the church.
  • -Maintain and update the short term and long term ministry and facilities plans.
  • -Implement financial control policies and processes for approving, reviewing and controlling expenditures.
  • -Oversee corporate issues of legal, insurance, environmental, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • -Establish and maintain effective personnel functions, processes and records.
  • -Maintain records and oversee implementation of direction from the Session.
  • -Serve as Secretary / Session Clerk to the Elder Board.
  • -Implement foundation, estate and gift management programs.
  • -Oversee church wide facility management, including capital projects, janitorial, maintenance, landscaping, planned improvements, and code requirements.
  • -Achieve successful annual audits of the books.
  • -Serve as church procurement agent and maintain contact with banks.
  • -Maintain church IT web site, database, equipment and software.
  • -Support church wide special events.
  • -Oversee church wide communications, publications and media relations.

3) MINISTRY

  • -Work with Sr. Pastor to minister to church members, staff and community.
  • -Pursue daily walk with the Lord in devotion, faith, and obedience in personal life.
  • -Participate in small groups and other ministries.
  • -Promote membership development and leadership training.
  • -Live and lead by example to exhibit core values, behavior and stewardship.
  • -Maintain an active, positive relationship and communications with the NE FL Presbytery.

4) QUALIFICATIONS

  • -Should be a church member of GNC while in this role.
  • -Support and submit to the doctrines, beliefs and authority of the Session of GNC.
  • -Education: minimum 4 year Business or related degree, MBA desirable.
  • -Experience: minimum 10 years of work in business, administrative, leadership roles with proven results achieved through multiple subordinates in team based environment.
  • -Spiritual Gifts: Administration & Leadership. Must be spiritually mature.
  • -Talents: excellent organizational skills, people skills and ability to lead.  Must be able to impact results by delegation and leadership of others.
  • -Must have empathy for others, but still be able to make tough HR / Financial decisions.
  • -Computer / IT literate, familiar with Quick Books.
  • -Character Traits: spiritually mature, ability to lead and inspire, servant’s heart and a leader’s mind and toughness. Must be a team player, able to articulate his / her role to others and clarify the support and impact needed from the rest of the team.
  • -Must be an effective, clear communicator throughout the organization, from volunteers to staff to Sr. Pastor.
